Finding a deed can take some time. Deeds are stored at the county recorder’s office and each one has a different process for searching for deeds. Some offices may provide information over the phone or allow copy requests by mail. Others may accept requests online. To search for a deed, you will need either the name of the grantor or the grantee.

Once the county for the property has been located, you can conduct your search. Some offices may require that you come the office in-person to locate your deed. In some cases where the deed is not recorded with the county, a private party may have the deed such as the original grantor or grantee.
